Beyond expectations, India’s ruling party sweeped the month long general elections, marking the biggest victory by any party since the past 18 years in the country.

The party President, Ms Indira Gandhi was quick to reinforce Manmohan Singhs appointment as Prime Minister, something earlies Rahul Ghandi had been emphasizing on, amidst speculation of the young Gandhi taking over.
